I came across this ‘Reading Habits’ book tag on the YouTube channel: BookJazz

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
Nope, it is all weather dependent. If I am cold, I will snuggle up in bed and read. If it is an average temperature I will read on the couch and if it is hot then I was usually lay out in the sun and read. I am a read anywhere kinda girl.
Bookmarks or random pieces of paper?
I will always choose a bookmark, however if I am on the go or my bookmark is in use then I will use random pieces of paper. The one thing I will never, ever, ever do is dog ear my books…I am not a savage!
Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?
I have to read on to the end of the chapter. I am so guilty of that ‘I will just read to the end of the chapter’ attitude. I don’t like leaving my reading in the middle of a plot line, because I am so forgetful. I like it when the chapters are quite short because I love reaching those milestones.
Do you eat and drink while reading?
Nope! Reading and eating are like my two sacred times of day. I allow time for each and then concentrate on each of them 😉
Multitasking: Music and TV while reading?
What the?!? No, I don’t have the multitasking ability to take in what I am reading if there are distractions. If I am in the lounge and my boyfriend is watching TV sometimes I can read my book, but if it is a challenging read with unfamiliar vocab, then I was usually need to go read somewhere else. I am pretty good at zoning people/noise out, but I could never actively try do both at once. One will be getting ignored.
One book at a time or several at once?
I have always been a several books at once reader. I have a ridiculously short attention span, so when I find a book hitting a dull patch I start another one. Then I can usually have enough enthusiasm to power through the dull patches because my reading happy meter is full. I also tend to read one light hearted read with a more challenging read at the same time.
Reading at home or everywhere?
I read everywhere and anywhere. I typically read at home, because that is where I spend most of my time. However I often read during my work breaks and I listen to audio-books whenever I am on my own in the car, especially on long distance trips! I also love going on holiday and taking books with me, then I try and find a cool spot to relax and read.
Reading out loud or silently in your head?
If I am reading for myself I read in my head. Sometimes I might get to cool sentence or word and read it out to my boyfriend. The only time I read out loud is if I am reading to my class. I love read out loud to them because when I read in my head I have different voices/accents for the characters and it is fun to bring that to life. They are always entertained my random characters, they will often tell me to not let the substitute teacher read, because they don’t know the voices.
Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
Oh breaking the spine…absolutely not…ever…never! I like my books to look brand new. My library is a collection. I often read on my tablet and then buy the hard copy if I love the book to add into my collection. I don’t even lend my books out, If I love a book I sometimes buy two, one I can lend and one that is perfection.
Do you write in your books?
Do you write your own books?
I do. I only share them with my boyfriend and sister though. I go through phases of being really into writing and will write half a novel, then work will get busy and lose the momentum. By the time that happens I am usually board of my idea and will start something new. I currently have 4 half finished books. I do love to write though, I typically write stories I want to read or sometimes I will take an idea from a book I love and put a fan fiction spin on it. When I was a teen I wrote tons of fan fiction, I would cringe to search that username up and find it now.
Do you read most in the morning, noon, afternoon or night?
Any chance I get. Mostly night, but if it is school holidays, then all day every day =)
Do you read the book first or watch the movie?
I always, always, always read the book first. If the movie comes out and I haven’t read the book yet then I will put off watching the movie and hearing about it until I finish the book. I am generally pretty on top of this though, I have a TBR shelf on my Goodreads account for books becoming movies each year.
When buying books do you prefer the original cover or the movie cover?
I HATE the movie covers of books. I get quite passionate about this, I especially hate if I am trying to buy a book and all I can find are the movie covers.
What form do you prefer to read on – E-book. audiobook or physical copy?
I most prefer E-book. This is because I can highlight and make notes on my tablet while I read, which is immensely helpful when writing reviews. I also love that I can take it with me and have like 500 books to choose from.
I prefer to collect hard copy books – obviously!
I love audiobooks of long books with multiple narrators. It makes the long books so much more exciting to read.
Do you prefer to read stand alone books or books in a series?
This all depends on my mood. Sometimes I want to read a stand alone and close the door on the characters. It makes me happy to just let them be. Other times I love series because I can’t get enough of the characters and worlds.
Favourite genre to read?
Again this is mood dependent. I love retellings, books about mental illness, dystopian societies and anything with an amazing cover!
Do book series have to match?
I have the last book in the ‘Tomorrow When the War Began’ series that I don’t own because they stopped printing the series in that particular cover style. It will forever be incomplete, unless by some miracle I find it.
I tag anyone reading this!
