Top 5 Wednesday: Books to Television

Today’s Topic Is: Books you want to see as TV shows

This is for those books that need to be adapted and extended for TV.

I often think of what the visual adaption would be like when I read books. This is going to be a hard one to narrow down.

1 – Harry Potter

What network should pick this book up? – HBO

This is the obvious choice. I mean who wouldn’t want Harry Potter to turn into a 7+ season series where every detail in the books can be honored and savored.

2 – A Court of Mist and Fury

What network should pick this book up? – The CW

I just want to see the Night Court come to life and have a whole season on random characters that live here. The scenery for each of the courts would be amazing to explore.

3 – Throne of Glass

What network should pick this book up? – Netflix

There is so much to work with in terms of setting, characters and creatures. I am obsessed with Manon, he story would be my favourite part to watch unfold.

4 – Carry On

What network should pick this book up? – BBC

I am obsessed with this story! The story itself hints at some many different years at Watford. Each season could be from Year 1 – Year 7. Oh how magical!

5 – Anna and the French Kiss series

What network should pick this book up? – MTV

Every season could be a new love story. Oh man, someone needs to make this happen!

Top 5 Wednesday: Settings you want to see more of

TODAY’S TOPIC IS: Settings you want to see more of

This is where I get to share my top 5 settings. These can be time periods (historical to futuristic) and places (real or fictitious).

I put a lot of thought into this and I am not going to lie, it was really hard. This is such a big category with so many variables and choices. I just had to go with my first reactions.

1 – Hogwarts

I mean…this is seriously a no brainer.

Anyone that knows me, knows I am a Harry Potter fangirl to my core. I will never be able to get enough of this setting.

2 – The South

Cowboys, football, great manners and even better food.

I really want some more contemporary romances set in the south. I like the idea that one day I might be able to run away to a ranch and marry a cowboy.

3 – The Night Court

Can Sarah J Maas just write books that come out every week. I need more of the ‘Court of Thorns and Roses’ series. I would even settle for reading about minor characters and their trivial lives. Pleaassseee I want more!

4 – World War 2

I love all books set in World War 2. Ever since learning about it in school when I was about 10 years old, I have been fascinated by what transpired. I would like to see more multiple POV books in this time period.

5 – Sport Arenas

This sounds like a weird one but I didn’t know how else to write it. I am obsessed with sport. I love watching rugby, football, American football, gymnastics…you name it I will watch it.

I want more books about athletes. I loved ‘Kulti’ and ‘Scoring Wilder’ so much that I just neeeeeeeed to see more contemporary romance books set in sporting settings.

Top 5 Wednesday: Favourite Posts

TODAY’S TOPIC IS: Favourite Posts

This is where I get to share my top 5 favourite posts of my own!

I think this is a cool idea. I get to showcase the posts/photos I am really proud of.

1 – Instagram

I am being a total cheater here! I have created a little collage of my favourite instagram posts I have ever made. I love setting up little book scenes that reflect what the book means to me.

2 – Kulti – Book Review

Basically I just adored this book and need people to read the review so that we can start a book conversation about it!

3 – Rip it or Ship it  – Book Tag

This was seriously so much fun! If you have done this book tag please link it in the comments section. You pick a bunch of characters from your favourite books, write their names down and randomly pull them from a jar. Then you get to decide if you would rip or ship them.

4 – A Court of Mist and Fury – Book Review

When you love a book, it is just so easy to write the review. I had lots of fun getting down my thoughts and feelings about this beauty!

5 – Book Aesthetics

000 0

I recently started another instagram account – Paperlusteraesthetics

This is where I post book aesthetics that I create. I have started to create one for every book I read and I usually insert it at the bottom of my reviews.

Above are some of my favourites. Can you guess which books they are from?

TODAY’S TOPIC IS: Authors you would love to meet

I am cheating! New Zealand does not have events like this. So this is purely my dream team of the authors I would most like to meet. I didn’t want to look at the line up for Book Expo America or Bookcon because I would be a mixture of depressed and jealous.

1 – JK Rowling

This is such an obvious choice, but she will forever by my number one pick. I would love to just sit down and have a coffee (except I would have hot chocolate, because I hate coffee) with her and ask her how she developed the world of Harry Potter. Wouldn’t it be a treat to pick the brain of literary genius!

2 – Sarah J Maas

Maas is a god when it comes to fantasy writing. She recently came to New Zealand and her Instagram was so gorgeous showing off all the amazing locations we have. I feel like she would be someone so fun to sit down and have a drink with. I would pick her brain for book projects she has in the works and ensure I get an advance copy of every future book.

3 – Rainbow Rowell

Rowell came out of nowhere for me this year. I read Eleanor and Park last year and enjoyed but didn’t really feel the need to read anything else by her…but one stormy day I picked up Fangirl…OMG I am now such a Rowell fan. I devoured Fangirl, Carry on and Kindred Spirits all in the space of a week. I want to know who does her book cover designs #flawless

4 – Colleen Hoover

Hoover is the romance/tortured soul specialist. I could pitch her a few of my ideas and she could actually do them some justice. I need Hoover to be my ghost writer. If only.

5 – Pierce Brown

I need to meet Brown so I can slap him for the emotional torment he put me through when reading Red Rising…that is all.

If you could meet any authors, who would you choose?

Top 5 Wednesday: Books You’re Intimidated By

This is for those books that make you stop and think ‘Am I ready for this?’

There are three things that contribute to me being too intimidating to pick up a book: Hype, size and content.

I have selected books that I have not read yet due to these factors.

1 – Cassandra Clare Books

Why I haven’t read them: Hype and Size

I can feel the death glares and eye rolls from here…I’m sorry!

There are sooooooooo many of them now and everyone raves on and on about them all. I have read ‘City of Bones’ and ‘Clockwork Angel’ I just haven’t continued either series. I have since bought all of them and have great intentions of finishing them so I can watch the ‘Shadowhunters’ TV series without spoiling it for myself.

2 – Game of Thrones Series

Why I haven’t read it: Size

These books are so daunting. There are so many characters, locations and twists that I need it to be a picture book to be able to follow along without getting lost. I have tried to read the first book 3 or 4 times and have not even be able to get past the first chapter.

3 – Outlander

Why I haven’t read it: Size

I really want to get into this series, but the sheer size of the book puts me off.

4 – Winter

Why I haven’t read it: Size and not wanting the series to be over

I so badly want to read this but I am just not ready for it to end. I really want to listen to the audio-book, but unfortunately it isn’t available on Audible in New Zealand. I also don’t have enough time to commit to the sheer size of this book.

5 – Passenger

Why I haven’t read it: Hype

The hype is far too high on this one. I have read about 25% but then for some reason I put it down.

TODAY’S TOPIC IS: Books with ‘Hard’ Topics

This is for those books that tackle the big issues like: Suicide, mental illness, addiction, abuse, illness etc…

Normally I would give a blurb about why I picked each book. I don’t want to ruin or give anything away so I am going to keep it simple and label each cover with the issue/theme of the book.

1 – Me Before You

Disability || Assisted Suicide

2 – All the Bright Places

Mental Illness

3 – The Fault in Our Stars

Illness || Cancer

4 – We Were Liars

Death || Grief

5 – Eleanor and Park

TODAY’S TOPIC IS: Rainy Day Reads

This is for those books that you need to cuddle up with on a rainy day.

1 – Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

I picked this book because it is set on the island of Cairnholm, Wales. A place that always seems to be gloomy and raining. This book is perfect to read on a rainy day because you will feel like you a delving into the world of Pecuiliardom.

I love this entire series and recommend it to everyone that wants to read something unlike anything they have read before. The movie is going to be released later this year and I strongly recommend you read this book before then.

2 – Me Before You

This books goes on every list…like seriously. I just can’t get enough of this book. It is one of my all time favourite books I have ever read. I wish I could have the experience of re-reading it for the first time. You will need to read this book on a rainy day, because you will have to tell people the reason your face is so wet is because you got caught out in the rain!

3 – Uprooted

This book is a romance/fantasy/paranormal/fairy-tale/coming of age – basically it ticks all of the boxes. I wish this book was a movie because I would be watching it on repeat. I devoured this in one sitting (even though it was a beast) and proceeded to browse the internet for what people thought the dream casting should be. Arg! I love this book.

4 – A Court of Thorns and Roses

I love a fairy-tale retelling. Beauty and the Beast twisted, fractured and retold with more magic and mystery. What makes this even better is that it is a series and the next book comes out this year. The two main characters in this book are hot. Just what you need to escape.

5 – The Summer I Turned Pretty

This seems like such a random pick when I look back on the rest, but I just love this series. It is so cutesy and feel good. I love the characters, it is set at a beach. Its first loves mixed with family dramas. It is just great! This is a great rainy day read because who doesn’t want to escape to a summer at the beach filled with first loves?

TODAY’S TOPIC IS: Least Favorite Book in Your Favorite Series

This is for those books we didn’t like within the series we love and can’t get enough of.

1 – Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter Series)

I mean how can you pick a book in this series you didn’t like, when they are all amazing! I picked ‘Chamber of Secrets‘ because it is one of the shortest books – I wish they were all giant! – Being the shortest of all the books it lacks the depth the other books contain – You can’t fault the first one purely for the novelty of introducing us to the magical world of wizardry and witchcraft.

2 – Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass Series)

I adore this series. Celeana, Rowan, Manon, Choal, DorianThe list goes on. A badass book series full of gritty and exciting characters. However…I found this book really long and boring. It felt like one of those books that is a filler setting up for the next one in the series. Worst of all it had a way to played out love triangle. Pass!

3 – Allegiant (Divergent Series)

This series is amazing. I love the idea of the factions and this dystopian society. Book 3 of the series…that ending. I hated this book for months and till I finally accepted that I couldn’t change the outcome. Heartbroken…Enough said.

4 – New Moon (Twilight Series)

This book series is what got me back into reading when I was about 18. I love that this series inspired me to get back into going to the library weekly. Why do I dislike New Moon? This book was all about Bella pining over Edward after he left. Jacob is trying to move in on Bella and I mean seriously…Team Edward! There was waaaaaaaaaay too much Jacob in this book.

5 – Breathe (Colorado Mountain Series)

Kristen Ashley is the Queen of romance means murder mystery. I love her work and I think she writes raw and gritty characters who I love to see get together. Breathe was very left field for the Colorado Mountain series. It focused on the town virgin and local cop. I found this book boring and didn’t care for either of the main love interests. I am excited and ready for Bounty to be released next month!
